SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- This year, the Township of Scotch Plains Mayor’s Gala will again honor a male and female volunteer of the
year in addition to a volunteer organization of the year. Nominations are now open and everyone is encouraged to nominate a special person or organization. In a twist to this annual event, awardees will be honored on Scotch Plains Day, October 4, 2020, on the Alan Augustine Village Green, next to the Municipal Building.
 
“The Mayor’s Gala is a great opportunity to recognize those people and organizations that are making a difference in Scotch Plains, especially during these times of the pandemic,” said Mayor Al Smith. “In addition to the recognition, the honorees designate a charity to receive a portion of the proceeds collected in their honor, so we have double the winners.  Please help us identify our honorees for this year’s Gala.” 
 
The only nomination requirement is that the volunteer work must be done in Scotch Plains. Hard copy nomination forms may be obtained from the Scotch Plains Municipal Building, 430 Park Avenue or downloaded on line at www.scotchplainsnj.gov.  Submission deadline for nominations is August 31.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Municipal Alliance Committee (SPF MAC) will be the recipient of a portion of the proceeds of the Mayor’s Gala.The alliance is a community-based organization dedicated to a comprehensive and coordinated effort on the prevention of illegal use of alcohol and drugs. SPF MAC’s main focus is on alcohol abuse amongst our minors. MAC has served our communities since 1988 supporting programs such as Project Graduation, Think Purple Week, and Student Leadership Conference.
