September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Childhood cancer continues to be the #1 disease killer of children. Despite major advances – from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just fifty years ago to nearly 90 percent today, for many rare cancers, the survival rate is much lower, according to Curesearch.org. Further, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years. Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.

The Jam Kancer In The Kan Foundation supports organizations such as the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Recently, in a huge development for the field of pediatric cancer research, the FDA approved a personalized cellular therapy developed by CHOP and the University of Pennsylvania. This new therapy removes some of a cancer patient's cells, re-engineers them, and then returns them to the body to attack cancer cells. It is the first FDA-approved therapy of its kind. The Jam Kancer In The Kan Foundation is a donor-advised fund operating under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of New Jersey. Tax-Id # 22-2281783.

We’ve been camping at that campsite every summer for years, far longer than our current scouts or their older brothers can remember.
