FANWOOD, NJ -- Call it a "Caravan of Caring."
On Sunday, 25 classic cars, rolled up for Fabio’s Bistro (217 South Ave, Fanwood), collected pizzas, delivered them to healthcare workers on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19.
Pizzas, with a “Thank You” note attached to each box, were then dropped off to the Center for Hope Hospice on Raritan Road in Scotch Plains, Children Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, Overlook Medical Center in Summit, and RWJ University Hospital in Rahway.
One driver was designated to drop off the pizzas at each site. At the first stop, Center for Hope, staff came out to capture the moment on video and wave gratefully to the cars as they drove by.
"We made a lot of people (donors and healthcare workers) happy today. The smiles on the recipients' faces were priceless," said Greg Kay of Fabio's Bistro, which tomorrow is starting a program where it will match each pizza that the Fanwood police deliver to senior citizens each day, doubling the number of people helped.
"We thank all the first responders for continuous hard work and compassion and recognize your amazing strength," he added.
