SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- On Saturday March 30th and Sunday March 31st, the Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation will once again roll out its signature fundraiser Dollars for Students but this year with a different twist.
Once again the Foundation will partner with high school students. However, this year students won’t be knocking on your door; they will participate in a Shake-a-Can Drive.
They will stand in front of area businesses; in Scotch Plains at John’s Meat Market, Massa Pizza, Bagels Plus, Dunkin’ Donuts, Scotch Plains QuickChek and the Scotch Plains Post Office. In Fanwood at Fanwood Bagel, Fanwood QuickChek, the Fanwood Grille, the Railside Café, and the Fanwood Post Office.
Foundation President Mary Ball Cappio says: “Community support for Dollars for Students has always been very strong and we’re counting on the community once again. Please partner with us for the future of our students and our community. Look for students participating in this Canning Drive, use the DONATE button on our website, or send a check to Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 123, Fanwood, NJ 07023.“
100% of the funds raised directly support scholarship aid to high school and college students living in Scotch Plains and Fanwood. In its 52-year history the Foundation has distributed $3,227,552 to 3,104 students. In 2018 the Foundation distributed $156,150 to 97 students. In 2019, 164 students have applied for scholarship assistance.
