SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- This holiday season will have a special meaning for the Rodrigues family of Scotch Plains as they received the gift of a decorated home for the holidays.

Allison Lestarchick nominated the Rodrihues family for the Decorated Family Program, a national program that was created by Christmas Decor to thank our country’s soldiers for their dedication and support by surprising them and decorating their family’s homes free of charge.

Christmas Decor by Triple R Lighting surprised the family on Thursday, Dec. 19. Crews began working at 11:00 a.m. to decorate their home on Sunrise Court and took a couple of hours to complete.

Why the Rodrigues family was chosen

Joe Rodrigues served as a Marine as a young man. After his discharge, he entered into the Reserves where he has risen to the rank of Lt. Colonel. Joe and his wife, Bethany, have four children. He is the commander of a Marine unit in Long Island, works a full time job, and is a Battalion Chief on the Scotch Plains Fire Department.

"The timing of this is great," Joe Rodrigues told TAPintoSPF. "We have family on both sides coming and neither of us had time to decorate."
