SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The state reported another 3,088 positive COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 47,437 with just over 1,500 deaths, according to New Jersey's COVID-19 website.
Union County has confirmed 410 new cases and 30 additional deaths for a total of 4,831 positive cases and 125 deaths. According to the state's COVID-19 website, Bergen County still leads the state with 7,874 positive test results and 314 deaths, followed by Essex County (5,598 positive test results, 276 deaths), Hudson County (5,437 positive test results, 122 deaths), and then Union County.
Among the 125 deaths reported in Union County was a new one in Scotch Plains, according to Mayor Al Smith, who had no specific details about the third loss of life. Scotch Plains Township now has 100 confirmed cases of coronavirus. The population of the township is a little more than 24,600. Thus, only a small percentage of residents have tested positive.
Fanwood remains at a total of 25 cases with two deaths out of slightly more than 7,800 residents.
Neither Union County nor the State of New Jersey provide information about how many patients have overcome the disease at this time.
