FANWOOD, NJ --Fanwood Borough Clerk and Administrator Eleanor McGovern is retiring at the end of the year after 35 years of service. Mrs. McGovern's upcoming retirement was announced at Monday evening's Fanwood Borough Council meeting.
“Eleanor informed the Council earlier this month it was her intention to retire at year’s end. I am personally sad about the news since she has been incredibly helpful to me as a councilman and really to all of us on the council, especially when we are first elected," said Fanwood Council President Tom Kranz. "She keeps us on the correct path and reminds us of the rules of engagement in local government."
"More importantly though, Eleanor is a sweet lady who really cares about others. She has touched thousands of residents in their day to day business with the Borough in her 35 years of basically running our town," Kranz added. "She has seen elected officials come and go, but she’s been here that whole time, providing consistent professionalism."
For now through the next couple months, however, Mrs. McGovern will still be serving the public and assisting in the transition to a new clerk.
