FANWOOD, NJ -- The environment was a main topic for the Fanwood Council  as it announced the formation of the Borough's Green Team and introduced an ordinance to establish electric car charging stations during its meeting on Monday, Nov. 18.

The Green Team is a group of volunteers who will fulfill a checklist of goals to re-earn Fanwood’s Sustainable Jersey certification. Among the goals are renewed enforcement of anti-idling laws at the train station and other public places. The Council also introduced an ordinance to install electric charging stations for two cars in the municipal parking lot. The stations are made possible by a grant from the State Dept. of Environmental Protection and will be installed in the coming months.

Council President Tom Kranz, who conducted the meeting in Mayor Colleen Mahr's absence, said that the Council will have to consider "How do we make sure anybody just doesn’t park there? We will have to have signage that says 'For Electric Vehicles Only'."
