SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Gov. Phil Murphy announced 2,289 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 for a new total of 11,124 across the state, as of 1 pm Saturday, March 28.

There is one new case reported in Fanwood, according to Mayor Colleen Mahr. Scotch Plains has not reported any increases in the number of COVID cases since yesterdays' update on the Township's coronavirus webpage.

In New Jersey, there have been a total of 140 fatalities, an increase of 32 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The increase in cases is "partly from community spread and partly from testing," Murphy said. "This is a pass/fail test. No one is getting graded on a curve."

The governor talked about a Mercer County incident in which Ewing Police broke up a party with 47 people in a 515-square-feet space, including a DJ. The organizer was charged, Murphy said.
