SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, WESTFIELD, NJ -- As the coronavirus lockdown continues into its second month, anxiety is on the increase. Government leaders and media outlets continue to report number of positive cases of COVID-19, along with the ever-mounting death toll.
For the general public, the mental health effects of COVID-19 are as important to address as are the physical health effects. According to Mental Health America, individuals who already have mental health conditions and those who are at risk of developing them because of increased stress levels caused by the pandemic – may need to address them.
Because of the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Hellenic Therapy Center of Scotch Plains is offering a half-hour free Zoom teleconferencing session on Tuesday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m. during which individuals can ask questions related to dealing with the stress of the current COVID lockdown.
Maria Sikoutris Di Iorio, founder of Hellenic Therapy Center and a licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist, will cover topics including:
- Financial stress (loss of job, drowning in debt)
- Stress of essential workers and effects on the family
- Working at home with children and juggling multiple responsibilities
- Setting boundaries with our children: screen time and sleep ... how much is too much?
- Dealing with having a loved one in the hospital
- Losing a loved one during this pandemic
- My marriage was on the rocks... and now it's gotten worse (we were in the midst of a separation; now we are stuck together in the house 24/7)
- Domestic disputes, irritability and being in each other's space
- Dealing with anxiety
