Each week, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA highlights a member of its staff, a YMCA member or volunteer as part of the "We Are Y Wednesdays" series on social media. Today, meet Christine Chaillet, one of their fantastic youth sports and gymnastics instructors.
I’ve been working here for 15 years. I had been coming here with my three boys and one of my friends who worked here at the time told me they were hiring instructors. I had taken the classes with my sons who were youth members and was familiar with the Y.
I started out teaching parent and toddler gymnastics classes, which is now called My Friend and Me. I also taught preschool gymnastics and then started teaching elementary track and our Ninja classes. I’m a marathon runner and it’s nice to spread the joy of running.
I also like working with the little kids. I find them to be very enjoyable. I start out having a lot of them in My Friend and Me and it’s nice to see their progression, watching them build skills and confidence. I have three teenage boys now and it’s nice to come and still be involved with the younger children. Two of my sons now work here, too. I tell my friends, it’s a great place for teens to work, it’s a family atmosphere.”
There’s still time to register for FSPY's Fall I programs, including youth sports and gymnastics. To register, visit www.fspymca.org/register or in-person at their Welcome Center, 1340 Martine Ave. in Scotch Plains.
