New Jersey Date Night is a series on NJ Flavor by relationship writer Craig Rogers.
If you attended elementary school anywhere in the United States, you were told repeatedly that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Your first grade teacher’s breakfast mantra was most likely repeated throughout middle school and even high school. Fast forward to college, keggers and dating opportunities provided by fraternity parties, when breakfast was neglected in favor of extra sleep and a big lunch. The memory of breakfast was replaced by the satisfaction of getting those extra moments of shut-eye. You woke up hungry, but with a lingering smile from your date the night before.
In spite of our rushed adult schedule of making deadlines in the day and building relationships in the evening, the voice of our first grade teacher saying, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” is still somewhere in our brains. Maybe we should turn back the clock to when hot breakfasts were the norm. And maybe — just maybe — we can make breakfast even hotter if we build a date around the most important meal of the day. Perhaps a breakfast date is just the thing to take our dating life from a predictable after-six cocktail to something a little more sunny-side up.
Get ready for a New Jersey Date Night that begins 10 hours before the sun sets!

Nothing says good morning to your date quite like an omelette, and the ones you’ll find at Raymond’s are an exceptional way to start your day — and date. Choices of fillings include chorizo, avocado and caramelized onions as well as favorites including Vermont cheddar, wild mushrooms and applewood bacon.
Other tasty offerings include French toast served with fresh fruit and Berkshires maple syrup and poached eggs with avocado toast. You also might want to check out their Farmhouse Scramble featuring scrambled eggs blended with Brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, bacon and sautéed onion with a dash of Parmesan.

Their menu changes seasonally and is truly reflective of the farm to table concept. This dedication to freshness even carries over to their coffee beverages, as you will enjoy coffee brewed from beans roasted that week and milk from Batterkiln Cows that were milked the day before.
Be sure to check out their breakfast sandwiches including The Classic (farm egg, thick bacon and cheddar on ciabatta) or The Pimento (farm egg, house pimento, lettuce and tomato on ciabatta). If biscuits are your thing, their biscuits and sausage gravy are a must!

In addition to favorites like the classic pancake and chocolate chip pancakes, you’ll find some creations that take breakfast to a whole new level. You might be seduced by the tiramisu pancakes — buttermilk pancakes layered with mocha espresso cream topped with chocolate and vanilla glaze might seduce you. Or perhaps your heart will be won over by the Whiskey “R&B” Pancakes featuring whiskey-soaked raisins with caramelized bananas with a pomegranate caramel sauce.
