CRANFORD, NJ – Hailey Seals will join Congressman Tom Malinowski (D-NJ 7th District) as his guest at this year’s State of the Union address on Feb. 4. Hailey is the oldest child of Detective Joe Seals who lost his life in the line of duty on Dec. 10 to armed extremists who were targeting law enforcement and people of Jewish faith.
“I admire Hailey’s bravery in coming to Washington to honor her father’s ultimate sacrifice,” said Congressman Malinowski, whose district covers the section of Scotch Plains above Route 22. “The cowards who murdered her father and three other innocents in a kosher deli were driven to violence by hate."
"Heroes like Hailey’s father are on the front lines in what is becoming a national fight against violent extremism," Malinowski added. "As lawmakers, we owe it to them to give law enforcement the resources they need to respond to and prevent future acts of terror.”
Detective Seals was a 15-year veteran of the Jersey City Police force serving in the Street Crimes Unit, and was a leading officer in removing guns from the street. He was promoted to detective in 2017. Hailey is a Cranford resident and graduate of Cranford High School. She is a freshman at Kean University.
