SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- A driver who swirved to avoid an animal slammed her mini van into a tree on Lamberts Mill Road on the Scotch Plains-Westfield border on Monday suffered only minor injuries despite the significant damage done to her vehicle, according to Scotch Plains police chief Ted Conley. The identity of the driver has not been released.

Both the Westfield and Scotch Plains fire departments arrived on the scene to help on Lamberts Mill, which forms the border between the two towns.

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Union County Hazmat FMBA Local 99 EMS branch transported two patients for treatment, according to the Westfield Fire Department FMBA Local 30, the labor union that represents the Westfield Fire Department.
