FANWOOD, NJ  -- A 27-year-old Plainfield man was struck by an SUV as he tried to cross the Martine Ave. Bridge in Fanwood on the north side near the metal dividers on Friday, Nov. 22, around 9:00 p.m., according to Fanwood police.

The pedestrian suffered head injuries that were not deemed to be life-threatening, and he was transported to RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to Chief Richard Trigo.

The SUV driver, from Avenel, never saw the pedestrian trying to cross and was not charged with any violations, Chief Trigo added.

"Pedestrians should cross at crosswalks and wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight when walking at night," Chief Trigo advised. "Be mindful that cars may not see you at night if you are not crossing in a crosswalk."
