SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains firefighters responded to a fire alarm at Terrill Middle School and extinguished flames in a kitchen of the school around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, according to the Scotch Plains police blotter.

"A pile of t-shirts were being stored on an unused food warmer in the serving area in the rear of the building. One of the knobs appeared to have been accidentally turned on, which set the t-shirts on fire," said Assistant Chief Skip Paal of the SPFD in an interview with TAPintoSPF. "Firefighters were able to put out the blaze before it spread beyond the immediate area."

Damage is estimated to be around $10,000, according to Paal. The building was not occupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
