FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood police department advised residents of a sighting of a bear in the northeast quadrant of Fanwood, last seen on Ridge Way (off Midway Ave). Later, several posts on social media reported that the bear had moved southward near Fenimore Drive in Scotch Plains.

The police urge residents to be cautious, do not approach the bear and do not leave food out for the bear.

"If you have an encounter with the bear or the bear remains in your yard please contact the Fanwood Police Department," said Captain Kevin Grimmer. "As always the safety of our residents and their pets are our primary concern."
