DENVILLE, NJ – The parking lot of the Denville Burger King served as a makeshift maternity ward for local police who helped deliver babies there on two consecutive days last week, it was announced today.

The first incident took place at 7:24 p.m. on Sept. 8, police said. They said patrol officers went to the Burger King in response to a call about a woman going into labor.

“The expectant parents were on their way to Saint Clare's hospital, but had been stuck in heavy traffic on Route 80 West when the woman began to experience contractions,” police said. “After pulling into the Burger King parking lot, they called 9-1-1 for assistance.”

The Denville Fire Department First Aid Squad arrived shortly afterward and joined the officers in helping the woman, police said. “Within minutes the woman went into labor,” they said. “Ultimately, with assistance from both departments, the woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy.”

As if that wasn’t dramatic enough, the same officers were called to the Burger King the next night for another woman going into labor, police said. In that case, the mother-to-be was headed to Morristown Memorial Hospital but could make it no farther than Denville, according to police.

They said “the woman began to experience severe contractions and the driver of the vehicle pulled into the Burger King parking lot and called 9-1-1. Upon the arrival of patrol, the expectant mother began to give birth.”

With the help of the officers the woman - in the rear seat of the car - gave birth to “a healthy baby boy,” police said.
