FANWOOD, NJ -- A winter storm warning is in effect for the Union County area for the potential of five to eight inches of snow to fall between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
Expect a combination of snow and freezing rain likely after 3:00 a.m. with low temperatures around 31 degrees and wind chill values between 25 and 30, according to the National Weather Service. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
"Residents must remove all vehicles from the roadway to allow the DPW to effectively and efficiently perform snow removal operations," said Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo. "Do NOT shovel or snow blow snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed, as this creates a hazardous condition."
Borough Code 259-22 states that residents must remove all snow and ice from any sidewalk in front of their property within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has fallen or formed.
"Please remove snow and ice within a three-foot perimeter of a fire hydrant," Chief Trigo adds. "Shovel a pathway from the hydrant to the street so firefighters can access it."
The chief also asks that residents check on elderly neighbors and those with special needs who may require assistance during the storm.
The Borough will be closely monitoring the storms track over the next 24 hours.
