SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Originally staged as part of the Soccer Club's 40th anniversary celebrations, the Scotch Plains Fanwood Soccer Club (SPFSC) is bringing back the 24-hour Soccer Marathon to kick-off its Fall '19/Spring '20 year and to celebrate the "beautiful game." This special event will be the third 24-hour Soccer Marathon that the Club has hosted at Southside Field in Scotch Plains.

Beginning on Friday, Oct. 4, at 5:00 p.m., and running through Saturday, Oct. 5, various age groups from the Under 4 (U4) Division through our High School Division, as well as adults in the community, will have an opportunity to participate in activities and contests, and play in various time-slots throughout the 24 hours.

"As soon as this Executive Committee assumed its positions in February, we immediately started thinking about this event, " said SPFSC President Frank Conley.  He continued, "We always say that Scotch Plains-Fanwood is a 'Soccer Town', and the 24-Hour Marathon is a celebration of soccer that we were very eager to bring back to the community."

"We have activities scheduled for the kids on Friday night including face painters, hair-braiding and a photo-booth, and we have contests scheduled for each age group including Fastest Shot and Soccer Bowling all in addition to actual games," he added.

Regular season games across the varied SPFSC Programs will be highlighted for much of the daylight hours on Saturday.  During the Saturday mornings hours from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Junior Recreation Program will be highlighted with 8 separate U10 Division games taking place. Beginning at Noon, SPFSC Senior Recreation and Travel will be highlighted with numerous games across several age groups.

Registration entitles each participant to participate in planned activities and contests as well as participation in game-play with their age group.  Registrants will also receive a SPFSC drawstring "Swag Bag" including SPF swag and coupons and goodies from the Marathon Advertising Sponsors (while supplies last). Onsite registration will be available on a space-permitting basis and is not guaranteed so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.  Registration is required to participate in activities, contests and games.  Food vendors will be onsite for an additional cost.

Funds raised through the event will go directly back to the members and players of SPFSC in addition to the SPFSC Scholarship Fund. Each year, SPFSC sponsors scholarships for outgoing seniors who have given back to the community through their involvement in SPFSC beyond their playing time.
