SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Playing in their home opener on newly renovated Wexler Field, the No. 5 ranked Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys had to overcome an early two-goal deficit to defeat Steinert East (Hamilton, NJ), 3-2, and improve to 2-0-1.

Romario Azer and Liam MacDonald each scored goals to give Steinert East a 2-0 lead in the first period. Nkem Okorie of the Raiders found the back of the net near the break to cut the deficit to 2-1.

 

In the second half, Alvaro Furfaro tied the game at 2-2. Dean Kirian put the Raiders ahead a few minutes later, sending the rauckus Raider Nation cheering section into a frenzy. Goalie Danny Coyle made several saves towards the end of the match to preserve the victory. Furfaro, Ryan Widman, and Owen Murphy had assists for the Raiders.

The win was the 750th of veteran coach Tom Breznitsky, who is in his 45th year of coaching at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.
