MONTCLAIR, NJ -- The successful Scotch Plains-Fanwood field hockey season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Red Division powerhouse Montclair on Monday.
"We did a great job holding our own against them," said Coach Allie Neidig. "We generated some good plays on offense, but couldn’t get past their great defense."
The coach said Cassidy Novello played "a heck of a game" and controlled both the defense and offense. Meanwhile, Erin Lay generated great stick work and dribbling.
"We couldn’t be more proud of this team and how far they’ve come,' Coach Neidig added. "To start only four years ago as a new program and to be playing a Red Division team like Montclair in the State semis is astonishing. I’m sad we are done, and I can’t wait to see what next year brings."
The girls ended their season an impressive 13-7-0 and made it to the state semifinals for the first time.
