SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood field hockey notched perhaps its biggest victory in the three-year history by defeating Westfield in what can only be described as a stunning upset.

Senior forward Erin Lay scored off a hard shot to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Later, sophomore Bridget Ennis sealed the 2-0 victory by scoring the second goal off a pass from senior defender Cassidy Novello.

Sophomore goalie Emilia Saccento recorded 8 saves including a penalty stroke.

"Westfield is in the division above us and a powerhouse in field hockey," said Coach Allie Neidig in an interview with TAPintoSPF after the game. "We are only in our third year as a varsity program, so to beat them today was a huge milestone for us."

Coach Neidig also credited the play of Cassidy Novello, Erin Lay, Emilia Saccento and Haley Cino in helping to secure the victory on Saturday.
