FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Girls “White” Team hosted and defeated the Somerset Hills YMCA (SHY) in their first home meet of the season. 

Individual Medley

In the opening 10 and under 100 IM event, Jacklyn Choi finished 1st and Anvi Ogale finished 3rd.  In the 200 IM, 11-12s Ashlyn D’Souza finished 1st, followed by Shwetha Venkatesh (2nd), and Colleen Gillen (4th).  13-14 swimmers Kayla Gould and Lily Gaulin finished 3rd and 4th. The 15-18 girls closed out the IM events with Sophie Gallahue finishing 1st, followed by Julianna Warren (2nd) and Julia Yick (5th).

Freestyle

8 and unders Serene Riaz and Navya Shrivastava finished 1st and 2nd in the opening 50 Freestyle event. They were followed by 9-10s Annika Jeena and Chloe Holland, who also finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 Freestyle. Genevieve Pope, Taylor Piazza, and Alyssa Verducci finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively, in the 11-12 100 Free. Helena Chan touched 1st for the 13-14s in the 200 Freestyle, followed by Jessica Markwant (3rd) and Elorie Howell (4th). Kavya Patel took 2nd in the 15-18 200 Free, followed by J. Yick  in 4th.

Breaststroke

In the 50 Breaststroke, 9-10s Holland, Srinidhi Balaji, and Leilu Colodne finished 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, respectively.   Venkatesh and D’Souza finished 1st and 2nd for the 11-12s. Hannah Alber finished 1st in the 100 Breaststroke for the 13-14s, followed by Markwant (2nd). Lara Espiritu finished 1st in the 15-18 100 Breast, followed by Katelyn Gaulin (2nd) and Jessica Rojek (4th).

Backstroke

Choi touched first in the 9-10 50 Backstroke, followed by Ogale in 2nd.  11-12s Verducci, Pope, and Elaina Yick finished 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, respectively.  Gould claimed 1st for the 13-14s in the 100 Backstroke, followed by Howell finishing 2nd. 15-18s Gallahue (2nd) and Patel (4th) closed out the Backstroke events with strong swims.

Butterfly

Jeena (3rd) and Balaji (4th) both scored points for FSPY in the 9-10 50 Butterfly, followed in the 11-12 50 Fly by Piazza (3rd) and E. Yick (4th). 13-14s Chan, L. Gaulin, and Alber finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively in the 100 Butterfly. The 15-18 girls wrapped up the individual events with the 200 Butterfly: Warren finished 1st, followed by Angela Panikiewsky (2nd) and K. Gaulin (3rd).

Relays

FSPY girls dominated the Medley relays, taking First in all age groups. Riaz, Shrivastava, Sophia Lee, and Keegan Scarpa finished first in the 8 and under relay. The 9-10 relay (Ogale, Jeena, Choi, and Holland) and the 11-12 relay (D’Souza, Venkatesh, Verducci, and Piazza) both had strong first-place finishes. 13-14s Gould, Alber, Markwant, and Chan continued the relay dominance, while J. Yick, K. Gaulin, Espiritu, and Patel closed out the meet with another 1st place finish for the 15-18s.

The final dual meet for the FSPY Girls “White” team is on Dec. 21 against the YMCA of Greater Monmouth at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA at 1:00 p.m.
