CLARK, NJ -- Madison Johnson, Sabrina Araujo and Abbey Ortiz combined for 50 points to lead the surging Union Catholic girls basketball team to a 69-49 victory over Johnson on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Vikings improved to 7-1 under legendary coach Kathy Matthews.

Johnson, a junior, led all scorers with 19 points and had six rebounds, six assists, and three steals steals. Araujo, a junior, finished with 17 points, and Ortiz had 14  points, eight steals, and five assists for the Vikings.

Union Catholic was in command of the game right from the start, taking a 13-7 lead after the first quarter. The Vikings had a huge 25-point outburst in the second quarter to open a 38-16 halftime lead.
