EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -- Madison Johnson fired in 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help lead the red-hot Union Catholic girls basketball team score a 48-37 victory over East Brunswick on Thursday in the East Brunswick Christmas Tournament.

The Vikings, now 3-0 this season, took control of the game with a 17-7 run in the second quarter to open a 28-16 lead over East Brunswick (1-2).

Johnson, a junior forward, played a great all-round game. She buried two of UC's five three-pointers, and also had four of the 12 steals that the Vikings came up with, and finished the game with two blocked shots.

Abbey Ortiz scored seven points for UC and had four rebounds, and four steals, and Daniela Peralta scored eight points and had two steals for the Vikings, who have combined a suffocating defense to go along with a very efficient offensive to fuel its great start to the season.

The Vikings will go for their fourth straight victory on Saturday at noon vs. South Brunswick in the East Brunswick Christmas Tournament.
