SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls swim team advanced with an impressive 95-73 victory over Randolph in the NJSIAA Tournament's Quarterfinal Round, North Jersey 2, Group B at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.
The Raiders swept the 200 Medley Relay with Morgan Tsin-Sofia Leonetti-Lily Houghes-Rachel Small taking first place, followed by Ava Mustacciuolo-Katelyn Gaulin-Julianna Warren-Kaitlyn Lusk in second, and Julianna Blanco-Stephanie Brown-Camille Cooke-Sophie Meinke in third.
Randolph senior Kyra Kayal took both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle distance races. She also anchored the winning 400 Freestyle Relay for her team.
Julia Bonhote, last week's Joint Motion Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week, continued her strong season by taking the 200 IM and anchoring the winning 200 Freestyle Relay. Aislinn Mooney won the 100 Freestyle and was on the winning 200 Free Relay team. Abby Ryan won the 50 Freestyle, Lily Hughes won the 100 Butterfly, and Morgan Tsin won the 100 Backstroke. Katelyn Gaulin finished first in the 100 Breaststroke.
"We did what we needed to do today, now we have to see if we can hang with Summit better," Coach Jess Hulnik told TAPintoSPF after the meet.
The Raiders are now 9-3 on the season and will swim against Summit in the NJSIAA Tournament North Jersey 2, Group B Semifinal Round.on Monday, Feb. 10. Scotch Plains-Fanwood will have to improve on their Jan. 17 performance against the Hilltoppers, who dominated the Raiders and won by a score of 108-62 at Summit YMCA. The two teams met again in the Union County Championships held at Rutgers on Jan. 26, when Scotch Plains-Fanwood finished third behind Westfield and second place Summit.
