SUMMIT, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood won seven of the 11 races, but Summit's depth carried the day as the Hilltoppers defeated the Raiders, 94-76, at the Summit YMCA on Monday, Feb. 10, to advance to the NJSIAA North 2, Group B Sectional Tournament finals vs. Chatham.

Julia Bonhote extended her unbeaten streak in the sprint races as she won the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle races. Lily Hughes won the 200 IM and continued her dominance in the 100 Backstroke. Aislinn Mooney scored a double by taking the 200 Freestyle by out-touching the second place finisher by .01 and winning the 500 Freestyle by a much larger margin. Hughes and Mooney were also members of the winning 400 Freestyle Relay.

However, Summit (10-1) matched those performances with three multiple winners of its own. Caitlin Fagan won the 100 Butterfly and swam on the winning 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay teams. Emma Claus took the 100 Breaststroke and was also a member of the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay winners. Cecilia Webb was a winner on the two relays; she anchored the Medley and led off the 200 Freestyle for the Hilltoppers.

Although the Raiders had more first place times overall, Summit proved to be the deeper team as their swimmers scored more points for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place finishes than Scotch Plains-Fanwood did in the individual races.

"Today's meet was awesome. The girls truly were invested this season and have been working hard," said first-year Summit coach Erin Fogarty after the meet. "We are excited to keep going on and are looking forward to seeing Chatham later this week."

Summit, ranked No. 2 in the bracket, will take on top-ranked Chatham on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 4:00 p.m. at Raritan Bay Area YMCA.

"We came in fighting hard today, and we had three double winners," said Scotch Plains-Fanwood coach Jess Hulnik. "It's not where we want to be, but we went out fighting."

Scotch Plains-Fanwood finishes the season with a 9-4 record. Four swimmers -- Julia Bonhote, Lily Hughes, Aislinn Mooney and Abby Ryan -- will continue their swim season as they head to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions at the end of the month.
