SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School varsity gymnastics team defeated Westfield on Monday, Sept. 23, with a score of 106.75 - 105.375.

Freshman Shaylin Farley won first place All Around with a score of 35.85.

On Vault, Freshman Elisa Bianco placed first with a 9.325. Sophomore Tamyra Singletary placed second with a 9.15. Shaylin Farley placed third with a 9.1.

On Uneven Bars, Senior Kelly Zimmerman placed first with an 8.65 and Shaylin Farley placed third with an 8.55. On Balance Beam, Shaylin Farley placed second with an 8.9 and Freshman Jordana Reisberg placed third with an 8.8.

On Floor Exercise, Shaylin Farley placed first with a 9.3 and Senior Nicole DeFrancesco placed third with a 9.15. The team has had some impressive wins this season. Their record now stands as 6 - 1.

“I’m really excited to see what the future holds for this very talented group of young athletes," said varsity head coach Lisa Cerchio, who has been with the Raiders for 16 years. "We still have so much more work to do with cleaning up all the little things that would officially constitute us 'hitting' a meet."

"The girls have been working very hard juggling dual practice sessions each day between their private clubs and high school along with the start of a new school year," saidassistant coach Tara Bozetarnik, who joined the team this season. "I can see their confidence growing with each meet and I know they will break some school records this year.”
