SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The JCC of Central NJ’s Barracudas swim team, in its 22nd season, is proud to report the completion of a very successful 2019-20 season.
Competing in a league with six other teams, the Barracudas were the Dual Meet Champs at the JCC on February 9 and the State Champs at the Raritan Bay Y on March 1. They also bested 12 other teams in the All Star Invitational meet last December.
“We are thrilled that we started the new decade with this success; the last time we won both the Dual Meet and States was in 2012,” said Martina Varholova, the Barracuda’s head coach. “This is my first season as head coach, and I am so proud of all of our swimmers.”
“We take pride in encouraging our swimmers to work hard and always do their best," Varholova continued. "We focus on teaching technique before speed. We are happy to say that has really paid off for us!”
This season, the team comprised close to 120 swimmers coached by Varholova and six assistant coaches. The team boasts a strong camaraderie among the swimmers and a great respect for their opponents demonstrated during all the meets. Parent support and involvement is key to the team’s success – almost 100% of the team’s parents volunteer at meets throughout the season.
The Barracudas will start forming their 2020-21 team in the summer. A "Meet the Coaches" night is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the JCC.
