SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Boxing legend "Gentleman Gerry" Cooney hosted an open house at his boxing academy at Yeti MMA on Route 22 in Scotch Plains on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Cooney, who hosts a SIRIUS Radio program, is promoting his autobiography, and does many charitable works, got into the ring with kids and adults to teach the finer points of the "sweet science" of boxing. 

Attendees also got pointers from Tony Santana, a member of the Marines Boxing Hall of Fame and a friend of Cooney's since they both won Golden Gloves championships as 16-year-olds at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, trainer Don Cassett, who worked with legendary boxer and trainer Emanuel Steward and heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield.
