SCOTCH PLAINS — The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education recognized two of the high school’s successful fall teams at the BOE’s public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

The girls gymnastics team was honored for winning the Union County Tournament for the first time in 16 years. Lisa Cerchio, who took over as the varsity coach 16 years ago, has referred to this year’s team as her “sweet sixteen.” Not only did the team capture the County title, it also won the Cougar tournament in Cranford the week prior.

The BOE also recognized the girls varsity tennis team for winning the Mountain Conference Title this fall. is Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only free daily local news source.
