SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood U13 Wolves soccer team captured the SYSL Green Division championship with a commanding 3-0 shutout victory over the Colonia Lightning on Nov. 15 at Ponderosa Park.

Head coach Marco Massa’s top-seeded Wolves (7-0-2), who battled to a slim 1-0 victory at second-ranked Colonia during the regular season, won more decisively in the championship game. Jayda Dunbar connected for the game’s first goal in the fourth minute, converting a rebound off a shot by team scoring leader Evalyn Szalanczi that hit the post. The Wolves made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when Kaylee Parchman fired in a goal off an assist from Braelyn Brandl.

Colonia turned up the pressure in the second half but the Wolves stood tall on defense. Center back Kaitlyn Massa shut down all opposing attacks, with support from fellow defenders Sophia Loewenthal and Sofia Cesario. Goalkeeper Emma Piszko stopped all shots that came her way and contributed booming punts and accurate goal kicks.
