Softball: Benvenuto and Peralta Combine on 1-hit Shutout to Lead UC over Plainfield

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Justina Benvenuto drove in two runs and combined with Gianna Peralta on one-hit shutout to lead Union Catholic to a 10-0 victory over previously undefeated Plainfield on Saturday.

Benvenuto, a sophomore, struck out seven in three innings and allowed one hit to improve to 6-1 on the season, the same record as the Vikings. She also scored two runs and scored two runs to go along with her two runs batted in.

Peralta, a freshman, pitched the final two scoreless innings and also scored three runs in the game.

Also for the Vikings, Lindsey Rotoly had three hits, including a double, and scored a run. Megan Sloane doubled and drove in a run, and Lauren Sasala singled and scored a run.

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday at home vs. Oak Knoll at 4 p.m.
