SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- What a comeback!

Things didn't look good for the Union Catholic softball team on Friday when the Vikings trailed 10-6 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning vs. Gov. Livingston.

But the Vikings came storming back with two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to rally for an 11-10 victory.

Sarah Ohnmeiss, who finished the game with three hits and four runs batted in, ignited the rally for UC when she came up with a clutch two-out single in the sixth to score Gianna Peralta and Justina Benvenuto to make the score 10-8.

In the seventh, Olivia Welham and Angelia Del Negro singled with one out, and then Peralta smashed a line drive single to left, which was misplayed. That allowed Welham and Del Negro to score to tie the game, and then Peralta scooted home with the winning run when the throw to third got away.

The Vikings, now 3-5 on the season, lashed out 16 hits in the game.

Benvenuto, the winning pitcher, had three singles and scored three runs. Gabriella Velona singled twice, doubled, scored three runs, and drove in a run. Welham singled twice, Isabella Fuentes singled in two runs, and Peralta singled, doubled, scored twice, and knocked in a run.
