FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Boys “Red” Swim Team defeated the Summit Area YMCA (SAY) “Gray Seals” on November 9. A team effort of terrific swims, the FSPY team beat the SAY team by a score of 219-146.
Individual Medley (IM) Events
The 10 & Under boys kicked off the 100 IM with Nivaan Mantri and Krish Arora finishing third and fourth respectively. The 11-12 boys Brody Linenberg, Zac McGeehan and Luke Iannotta jumped in to sweep the top three finishes. 13-14 olds Matthew Sauls and Ari Rabinovich took first and third in the 200 IM, while Brandon Cortez and William Yu took second and third for the 15-18 year olds.
In the 8 & Under 50 Free, FPSY swimmers were uncontested. Austin Briamonte, Hutton Davis and Beck Monteith took first, second and third respectively. In the 9-10 50 Free, Achilleas Balakrishnan and Henry Waibel touched second and fourth. Linenberg and Kyle Miller placed first and third for the 11-12 year olds, while Jack Perreault and Robert Lambert placed second and third in the 13-14 100 Free. Dylan Negron and Ryan Kim took the first and third spots in the 15-18 100 Free.
In the 8/under 25 Breast, FSPY was again uncontested; Jason Ng, Davis and Monteith swam for first, second and third. In the 9-10 50 Breast, Arora scored points for FSPY with a fourth-place finish. Matthew Iannotta, Douglas Gee and Eryn Gulbin swept the top three spots for the 11-12 year olds. In the 13-14 100 Breast, Ian Dinesh and Sauls came in first and second. Cortez touched first and Dominic Markwant came in second for the 15-18 year olds in the 200.
In the 8/under 25 Back RJ North, Stefan Monteith and Ng took the first three spots in an uncontested swim. In the 9-10 50 Back, Shastha Venkatesh, Achi Balakrishnan and Waibel took first, second and fourth. L. Iannotta and McGeehan took the top 2 spots for the 11-12s. Perreault and Rabinovich touched first and third in the 13-14 100 Back. Negron, Yu and Markwant took first, second and fourth in the 15-18 200 Back.
In the 8/under 25 Fly, S. Monteith and Alexandros Balakrishnan swam for first and second. Mantri, Venkatesh and Ajith Balaji earned points with second-, third- and fourth-place finishes in the 9-10 50 Fly, while for the 11-12s, M. Iannotta, Gulbin, and Miller took first, second and fourth. Dinesh and Lambert came in first and third in the 13-14 100 Fly. For the 15-18s, Owen Ferrone and Ethan Morrobel took the top two spots.
Freestyle Relay Events
The boys’ meet finished with the excitement of the Free Relay events with FSPY taking first in all age groups except 9-10s. (The 11-12s & the 15-18s each swam 2 relay teams.)
100 Free Relay
- 8 and under uncontested - 1st place: S. Monteith, Davis, B. Monteith and Briamonte
200 Free Relay
- 11-12 - 1st place: Linenberg, Gulbin, M. Iannotta and McGeehan; 3rd place: Miller, Gee, L. Iannotta, Atharv Dwivedi
- 13-14 - 1st place: Dinesh, Sauls, Lambert, Perreault
- 15-18 - 1st place: Kim, Yu, Markwant, Negron; 2nd place: Brandon Jawor, Spencer Linenberg, Morrobel, Cortez
The FSPY Boys Red team’s next meet is on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Westfield YMCA, start time yet to be determined.
