FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Boys “Red” swim team defeated the Somerset Valley YMCA Boys “White” team (SVY) on October 26. FSPY won its first dual meet of the season by beating SVY by a score of 185.5-162.5.
Individual Medley (IM)
The 10 & Under boys kicked off the meet for FSPY, as Krish Arora and Ajith Balaji took first and third respectively in the 9-10 100 IM. The 11-12 boys followed with Zac McGeehan and Douglas Gee taking first and third, while Ian Dinesh and Jack Perreault took second and fourth in the 13-14 200 IM. In the 15-18 200 IM, Dylan Negron touched the wall second while Brandon Jawor scored points with a fifth-place finish.
In the 8 & Under 25 Free, Austin Briamonte took second and Stefan Monteith touched fourth. In the 9-10 50 Free, Henry Waibel finished second and Griffin McClure came in fourth. For the 11-12s, Eryn Gulbin took first, McGeehan touched third and Kyle Miller scored in fourth place. Perreault placed first in the 13-14 100 Free, while Ryan Kim, Owen Higinbotham, and Sean Merkle finished second, third and fourth in the 15-18 100 Free.
In the 8/under 25 Breast, Alexandros Balakrishnan, Jason Ng and Beck Monteith took first, third and fourth, while in the 9-10 50 Breast, Arora took first and Waibel put in a strong performance to take fourth. Gee (first), Brody Linenberg (second) and Luke Iannotta (fourth) all added points in the 11-12 50 Breast. Dinesh took first and Matthew Sauls took third in the 13-14 100 Breast, while Dominic Markwant touched third in the 15-18 200 Breast.
Briamonte took third for FSPY in the 8/under 25 Back, with RJ North taking fifth. Achilleas Balakrishnan and Balaji took first and second respectively in the 9-10 50 Back. Matthew Iannotta finished a strong first for the 11-12s, while Kyle Karyczak, Sohem Rai, and Ari Rabinovich nabbed second, third and fourth for the 13-14s. Negron and Merkle took the second and third spots in the 15-18 200 Back.
In the 8/under 25 Fly, S. Monteith and Alex Balakrishnan came in second and third for FSPY. McClure and Shasta Venkatesh had the top 2 finishes in the 9-10 50 Fly, while for the 11-12s, M. Iannotta and Gulbin were the top two. Sauls, Karyczak, and Robert Lambert all brought in points for the second, third and fourth spots in the 13-14 100 Fly. For the 15-18s, Higinbotham and Owen Ferrone capped off the individual races with second- and fourth-place finishes.
The Free Relay events solidified the FSPY boys win with three of the five age groups touching first:
- 9-10 Team - Waibel, McClure, Arora and Achilleas Balakrishnan
- 11-12 Team – Linenberg, M. Iannotta, Gulbin and McGeehan.
- 13-14 Team - Sauls, Karyczak, Perreault and Dinesh.
