FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Girls “White” Team had their final dual meet of the season at home against the YMCA of Greater Monmouth (GMNY) on Dec. 21, 2019. The meet started with a recognition of senior swimmer, Lara Espiritu. Many FSPY girls had strong swims throughout the meet, however in the end they came up short. The final score of the meet was 189 (GMNY) to 170 (FSPY).
Individual Medley (IM) Events
In the opening 100 IM event, the 10 and under swimmers Jacklyn Choi and Anvi Ogale started off the meet with strong races, finishing 1st and 2nd. In the 200 IM, 11-12s Colleen Gillen, Ashlyn D’Souza, and Genevieve Pope finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. 13-14 swimmer Hannah Alber touched first in her event, followed by Kayla Gould (2nd) and Caitlyn Falkowski (4th). The 15-18 girls closed out the IM events with Lara Espiritu finishing 1st, followed by Julianna Warren (3rd) and Katelyn Gaulin (4th).
8 and under swimmers: Navya Shrivastava, Sophia Lee, and Serene Riaz finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, respectively, in the opening 50 Freestyle event. They were followed by 9-10s Annika Jeena and Leilu Colodne, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 Freestyle. 11-12 swimmers: Alyssa Verducci and Taylor Piazza finished 4th and 5th in their event. Helena Chan touched 1st for the 13-14s, followed by Alber (2nd) and Jessica Markwant (5th). Sophie Gallahue closed out the Freestyle events for the 15-18s, finishing 2nd, followed by Kavya Patel (4th), and Julia Yick (5th).
In the 9-10 age group 50 Breaststroke, Ogale finished 2nd. D’Souza and Gillen finished 2nd and 4th in the 11-12 50 Breaststroke. Gould touched 1st in the 100 Breaststroke for the 13-14s, followed by Lily Gaulin (3rd) and Elorie Howell (4th). 15-18 swimmer K. Gaulin closed out the Breaststroke events finishing 1st, followed by Espiritu (3rd).
8 and unders Shrivastava and Julia Lobo finished 2nd and 5th, respectively, in the 25 Backstroke event. Choi touched first in the 9-10 50 Backstroke, followed by Colodne in 4th. 11-12s Verducci and Pope finished 3rd and 4th in their event. Falkowski claimed 1st for the 13-14s in the 100 Backstroke, followed by Chan (2nd) and Howell (4th). 15-18s Gallahue (3rd) and J. Yick (4th) closed out the Backstroke events with strong swims.
Lee touched 1st in the 8 and under 25 Butterfly event, followed by Lobo (5th). Jeena (2nd) scored points for FSPY in the 9-10 50 Butterfly, while 11-12s Piazza and Elaina Yick took 3rd and 5th, respectively. 13-14s Markwant and L. Gaulin finished 3rd and 5th in the 100 Butterfly. The 15-18 swimmers: Warren and Maya Riaz wrapped up the Butterfly events, finishing 3rd and 5th.
8 and under swimmers: Lobo, Shrivastava, Lee, and S. Riaz finished 2nd in the 8 and under medley relay. Ogale, Jeena, Choi and Colodne touched 1st in the 9-10 relay, followed by the 11-12 relay team of Pope, D’Souza, Verducci, and Piazza taking 2nd. 13-14 swimmers: Gould, Markwant, L. Gaulin, and Chan finished 1st in their medley relay. Espiritu, K. Gaulin, Warren, and Gallahue closed out the meet with a 2nd place finish in the 15-18 relay.
