FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Girls “Red” team kicked off another dual meet season with a home opener win against neighboring Westfield YMCA (WY) Girls DS Division on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Individual Medleys (IM)
Starting off the meet, FSPY earned top place finishes with Amelia Nath in the 10 and under 100 IM, Caroline Lowder in the 11-12 100 IM, Alex Moore in the 13-14 200 IM and Aislinn Mooney in the 15-18 200 IM.  

Also scoring points were the 2nd place finishers: Jennifer Markwant (10 and under), Amelia Condell (11-12s), Leanne Dailey (13-14s) and Morgan Tsin (2nd place, 15-18s).  Other top 5 finishers in the IMs were Hrishita Paranjape (4th place, 10 and under), Emmy O’Hearn (4th place, 11-12s) and Gillian Strout (5th place, 15-18s).

Freestyle
The girls continued to dominate in the Freestyle with the 8 and unders coming in at 2nd, 4th and 5th place by Serafina DiMeglio, Anastassia (Stassi) Nath and Anastasia Geissman, respectively. The 9-10s swept the top 3 spots with Mary Ferreiro in 1st, followed by Sophia Monteith and Lexi Baglien in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  The 11-12 girls also took the 1st to 3rd places with Caitlin Carter in 1st, Sophia Yalcin in 2nd, and Keira St. John in 3rd.  The 13-14s followed with Carolyn Joe in 1st and Veronica Parzych in 2nd.  Rounding out the Freestyle events were top 3 finishes in the 15-18s by Katie Ziga in 1st, Fiona Strout in 2nd and Amanda Pina in 3rd.

Breaststroke
More first place finishes followed in the Breaststroke events in the 8 and unders (Sophia Lukov), 9-10s (Swathi Venkatesh), 11-12s (St. John), 13-14s (Clara Yu) and 15-18s (Mooney). Emma Baglien (8 and unders), Anna Victorino (9-10s), Yalcin (11-12s) and Dailey (13-14s) all finished in 2nd. FSPY rounded out the Breaststroke with Julia Ronnen in 4th place for 11-12s and Tsin in 3rd place for the 15-18s.

Backstroke
FSPY continued to add to their points with a tremendous showing in the Backstroke events across all age groups.  The 8 and unders started it off with a 1st place finish for Rose Ferreiro, while S. Nath took 2nd and E. Baglien placed 5th. The 9-10s took the top 3 spots with A. Nath in 1st, followed by Venkatesh and Paranjape in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Normandie Beversluis, Briana Li and Carter took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, for the 11-12s.  For the 13-14s, Moore and Parzych took 1st and 2nd place, respectively.  The 15-18s finished strong with a 1st and 2nd place finish for F. Strout and Ziga, respectively, with Sylvia Rozalski taking 4th place.

Butterfly
FSPY stayed strong through the Butterfly events, starting off with a 3rd place finish by R. Ferreiro and 5th place by Lukov for the 8 and unders.  The 9-10s saw M. Ferreiro, Victorino and Monteith placing 1st, 3rd and 4th, respectively. Beversluis touched 1st for the 11-12s, with Li and Lowder coming in at 3rd and 4th place. The first place streak in the Butterfly continued with the older age groups with Yu for 13-14s and Pina for the 15-18s.  Also scoring points were Joe in 2nd place for the 13-14s and Isabella Betman at 3rd place for the 15-18s.  Skye Sener rounded out the event with a 4th place finish for the 15-18s.

Relays
Relay A teams closed out the meet with 1st place finishes in all age groups:  8 and under (DiMeglio, Geissman, E. Baglien, R. Ferreiro), 9-10s (Monteith, A. Nath, Paranjape, M. Ferreiro), 11-12s (St. John, Li, Yalcin, Beversluis), 13-14s (Yu, Gabby Green, Joe, Moore) and 15-18s (Sener, Pina, Ziga, F. Strout). FSPY’s Relay B teams also swam strong to take 2nd place for the following age groups: 9-10s (Venkatesh, L. Baglien, Victorino, Markwant), 11-12s (Lowder, O’Hearn, Carter, Ronnen) and 15-18s (Rozalski, Avery Higinbotham, Betman, Mooney).

The FSPY Girls Red team will travel to Wall Township to swim against the Greater Monmouth YMCA on Saturday, Nov. 9.
