DES MOINES, IA -- Union Catholic legend and 2016 Olympian Sydney McLaughlin finished second to Dalilah Muhammad, who broke a world record in the 400-meter hurdles that stood for 16 years, at the U.S. Track & Field Championships on Sunday.

McLaughlin's performance enables her to advance to the IAAF World Athletics Championships, which will take place Sept. 27 - Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar.

In 2016 in Rio, McLaughlin was, at age 17, the youngest Team USA athlete to complete in the Olympics since 1972. She will be just 20 years old when the 2020 Olympic begin in Tokyo.
