ROSELLE, NJ -- The Union Catholic volleyball team defeated Kent Place in two sets in the semifinal round of the Union County Tournament on Wednesday night at Roselle Catholic High School, setting the stage for another clash with rival Westfield.

The Vikings, the defending county champs and No. 2 ranked team in the state, will square off with No. 17 ranked Westfield in the county final for the sixth straight year on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Kean University. 

UC has won three of the previous five matches vs. Westfield in the county final. Westfield advanced by defeating Gov. Livingston in the semifinals, 25-20, 25-16.

This will be the third meeting of the season between Union Catholic and Westfield with UC having won both matches in three-set thrillers. 
 
UC, now 24-1 on the season, won the first matchup last month in Westfield, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22. In the rematch at UC earlier this month, UC topped Westfield, 25-11, 17-25, 25-23.  



In the 25-18, 25-19 semifinal victory over Kent Place, several UC players stood out.
 
Olivia Szyszkiewicz had 11 digs, 10 service points, and eight kills. Brianna Lamberty recorded 12 service points and six digs. Abbey Ortiz had nine digs, nine service points, and eight assists. Najlaa Williams had 13 digs, Adrienne Caceda came up with seven assists, Aliyah Thomas has seven service points, and Alexandra Kwasnik finished with seven kills and five blocks.
