SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic volleyball team, recently elevated to No. 3 in the state rankings by NJ.com, continued its torrid start to the season with a straight sets road victory over Scotch Plains on Friday.

The Vikings, now 7-0 on the season, got off to a sluggish start in the opening set before rallying to capture the set, 25-23. UC was in command throughout the second set on the way to a 25-21 triumph to end the match

Alexandra Kwasnik was her sensational self, finishing with eight kills, seven blocks, six digs, and six service points. Abbey Ortiz had eight service points and seven assists. Olivia Szyszkiewicz finished with six digs, four kills, and five service points. Adrienne Caceda contributed six assists and five service points, and Brianna Lamberty had eight service points and six digs.    

UC Head Coach Nancy Saggio has now won 496 matches during her career at Union Catholic. She also won 43 matches when she coached at Mt. St. Dominic Academy from 1995-97, so Coach Saggio has a total of 539 victories in her remarkable career.
