SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Alexandra Kwasnik, who has helped lead the Union Catholic volleyball team to an 8-0 start and the No. 3 ranking in the state this season, was recently rewarded for her great play by being named the MaxPreps/AVCA New Jersey Player of the Week for the week ending on Sept.16.
Each week, MaxPreps and the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) team up to select athletes who have had recent outstanding performances. As Player of the Week, Kwasnik will receive a certificate and Letterman patch as well as a digital patch that will be displayed on her player profile page.
Kwasnik, headed to the University of Cincinnati to play volleyball, has put up some jaw-dropping numbers this season.
Through eight games, she's piled up 80 kills, 23 blocks, 37 digs, 45 service points, and has recorded 11 aces.
Union Catholic head coach Nancy Saggio said Kwasnik is a special player.
"She's a phenomenal athlete and can really change the momentum of the game with one play,'' said Coach Saggio.
Kwasnik was recognized on the N.J. All Non-Public Second-Team All-State team after her a phenomenal junior season last year that saw her record 193 kills, 60 blocks, 181 service points, and 56 aces. She is also one of the state's premier high jumpers. Last spring, she cleared 5-6 to win the State Non-Public A Track ad Field Championship in the high jump.
