SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Alexandra Kwasnik, Olivia Szyszkiewicz, and Najlaa Williams, who helped lead Union Catholic to arguably its greatest season ever, were selected to NJ.com's All-State volleyball team.
Kwasnik was chosen First-Team on both the Non-Public and overall All-State teams. Szyszkiewicz was named Second Team on both the Non-Public and overall All-State teams, and Williams made the Second Team Non-Public Team and the Third-Team overall All-State team.
Behind the stellar play of Kwasnik, Szyszkiewicz, and Williams, the Vikings finished the season with a 30-2 record (the second time in school history the team won 30 games), a final ranking of No. 2 in the state, the best in school history, and captured the Union County, Union County Conference, and State Sectional titles. UC capped its season by advancing to the State Non-Public Championship for the second straight year; the Vikings fell to No. 1 ranked Immaculate Heart Academy.
Kwasnik, one of the state's most dominating players at the net, led the team with 290 kills this season, nearly 100 more than her total of 193 fast year. The University of Cincinnati commit also had 84 blocks and came up with 43 aces.
Szyszkiewicz, who is heading to Jacksonville University for beach volleyball, had 232 kills this season to end her career with 663. An all-round star, Szyszkiewicz also added 280 digs and 229 service points. She also notched 53 aces this season to close out her high school career with a remarkable 272 aces.
Williams, a senior, established herself as one of the best libero players in the state this season as she racked up an astounding 313 digs, including a total of 51 in the four games in the state tournament.
