SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic volleyball team, ranked No. 2 in the state, stormed into the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public Tournament with a straight sets victory over Mount St. Mary on Thursday.

UC's 25-17, 25-13 victory over Mount St. Mary is the 17th straight victory for the second-seeded Vikings, who raised their record to 28-1 on the season. It's only loss came to defending Tournament of Champions winner Immaculate Heart Academy, the No. 1 ranked team in the state.  

Union Catholic will now square off with No. 10 seed Pope John in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Union Catholic.

Several Vikings stuffed the stat sheet vs. Mount St. Mary.

Abbey Ortiz had 13 service points, 10 digs, eight assists, and six aces. Olivia Szyszkiewicz recorded 10 digs, nine service points, and seven kills. Adrienne Caceda came up with 10 assists and five service points, Najlaa Williams had 12 digs, and Alexandra Kwasnik had seven kills for the Vikings.
