SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – Sophomore Brandon Bowles (113 lbs.) and senior Zach Zimmerman (195 lbs.) were crowned champions on Saturday at the 2019 District 16 wrestling tournament held at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.
"I am so excited to have won the championship at my first District tournament," Zimmerman said after the match. "I am happy to show people that hard work on and off the mat really does pay off. I am looking forward to regions and taking it one match at a time."
Additionally, sophomore Joey Larmore (106 lbs.) and senior Alex Oslislo (182 lbs.) won their third place matches and will advance to the regional tournament along with Bowles and Zimmerman.
No. 4 seed sophomore Joey Larmore of Scotch Plains-Fanwood pinned Nick Sanchez of Linden in 49 seconds to finish in third place and will move on to the regional championship.
No. 1 seed sophomore Brandon Bowles of Scotch Plains-Fanwood defeated Felix Lettini of St. Peter`s Prep in overtime, 5-3, to become the District champion.
No. 3 seed senior Alex Oslislo of Scotch Plains-Fanwood pinned Jacob Quandt of Gov. Livingston to finish in third place and advance to the regional tournament.
No. 1 seed senior Zach Zimmerman of Scotch Plains-Fanwood defeated Nour Sayed of Elizabeth to win the District championship.
No. 2 seed senior Eddie Smith of Scotch Plains-Fanwood lost a 6-4 decision to Gerome Abad of Elizabeth and finished in fourth place.
