ELIZABETH, NJ -- The wrestling season continues for sophomore Brandon Bowles of Scotch Plains-Fanwood, who finished third at the NJSIAA Regional tournament this weekend and now will advance to the state championships in Atlantic City next weekend.
Gabriel Leo, Roselle Park, won an 11-6 decision over Brandon Bowles, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, in the 113 lb. weight class at the NJSIAA Regionals, Region 4 Semifinal Round in Elizabeth on Sat, Feb. 23. Leo went on to defeat Patrick Phillip of Brearly to become winner in the weight class and will compete in Atlantic City. Bowles finished third and also will advance to the State tournament.
"Brandon continues to have a magical season. He currently is 22-4, finished third in the County tournament, won the District tournament, and placed third in the Regions to become a State qualifier," said Raiders wrestling coach Marc Fabiano. "As coaches, we hope our wrestlers peak at the right time, and Brandon is 100% on target. His motor never stops working and he steps on the mat with a vision of victory."
Also at the Regional tournament this weekend, Brendan Loder, Westfield, won a 13-7 decision over Zach Zimmerman of Scotch Plains-Fanwood, in the 195 lb. weight class at NJSIAA Regionals, Region 4 Quarterfinal Wrestlebacks on Saturday.
"Zach had a remarkable season this year. He finished with 30 wins, a holiday tournament and district tournament 1st place finish, runner up in the County tournament, and a Region qualifier," Coach Fabiano said. "He set the pace in the wrestling room and was a great example of a hard worker for our younger wrestlers. He will be surely missed next year."
