EAST ORANGE, NJ — A $10,000 award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Laquan Nowlin, 32, of East Orange was announced by Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II. The award will be paid by the Essex County Crime Stoppers Program.

On July 3, 2020 Nowlin was sitting in his vehicle at the intersection of Lanark and Sanford Avenue when he was fatally shot by one actor who exited the passenger seat of a dark colored sedan. The suspect returned to the passenger seat and the vehicle fled southbound on Sanford Avenue from the murder scene.

Nowlin worked at the Juvenile Detention facility but so far there is no evidence that the shooting was related to his employment. The investigation is active and ongoing.
