MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Up for final passage at tonight’s Township Committee remote meeting will be Ordinance Number 3002-20, allowing accessory dwelling units on a single-family property.

The ordinance states that at least one person involved must be 62 years of age. This allows either an older homeowner to have some income from renting the unit out, or allows a senior to live in a unit, possibly at the home of a family member. 

Members of the public may testify about the ordinance during its public hearing in the course of the meeting.

Also on the agenda for tonight’s meeting is the vote on the 2020 budget for the Springfield Avenue Partnership.The monthly Board of Health meeting will also be held.

New ordinances to be discussed include one to adopt procedures for the licensing of body art establishments within the township; one which will vacate a portion of the Essex Avenue Right-of-Way that will be used by the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education as part of its development; and the installation of a stop sign on Forest Road at its intersection with Essex Road.

The meeting will be broadcast live on the township's Youtube Channel and via Zoom beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

There will be no live broadcast on FIOS 24 or Comcast 35 due to the remote nature of the meeting.
