On Saturday, May 16th, the Ethical Culture Society will celebrate music and art with two very special events. At 5 pm celebrated Charles Ives scholar Neely Bruce will perform a special concert with Elizabeth Saunders and Christopher Grundy: Charles Ives: Songs in the Key of Z. From 7-9 pm there will be an artist’s reception for South Orange artist Florence Weisz, whose collage exhibition, Stones of Resonance: China, Tibet, Jerusalem, is on display at the Society from May through July.

In Stones of Resonance, Weisz shows three series of collages that derive their imagery and inspiration from places that have resonated deeply with her: the exhilarating experience of climbing the Great Wall of China; Weisz’s fascination with the powerful, serene Buddhist architecture of Tibet; and her complicated love of Jerusalem—all expressed through images of stone. Essex Society member Martha Gallahue will tell of her recent visit to China and Tibet and update those in attendance on the current situation there. Refreshments will be served. Both events are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.
